The Central Place development is an important part of the City of San Jose's comprehensive revitalization of its downtown core. Situated in the heart of the City's new residential district, between the Fairmont Hotel and San Jose State, the development will set a new standard for high-rise residential living in San Jose. The first of two phases, The 88 includes 197 for-sale residential condominiums in a 22-story tower above 31,000 square feet of amenity retail, a landscaped public plaza, and six levels of residential and public parking. Completion is scheduled for 2008. The second phase includes 203 for-sale residential condominiums in a second 22-story tower, 37,000 square feet of additional retail space, and three levels of above-grade residential parking. The project was awarded the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal 2006 Mixed Use Project of the Year.
